Chemo gowns are worn by personnel who are manufacturing or handling chemotherapy or other types of hazardous drugs (HD) to prevent them from making contact with cleanroom workers’ skin. In order to properly protect against unwanted exposure, chemo gowns must be impervious.
The USP 800 regulations state that compliant chemo gowns must be closed in the back and made with polyethylene coated polypropylene which will not allow any liquids to pass through. We recommend that you go a step further by purchasing chemo gowns that are tested for chemotherapy permeation by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Cleanroom Connection stocks multiple styles of ASTM chemo-tested gowns, aprons, and chemo coveralls that are clean-processed. Most are available sterile. USP 800 compliance requires a higher standard for gowning be implemented for millions of employees who come in contact with HD. Cleanroom Connection is trained in USP 800 compliance and offers superior customer service to those pharmacies and hospitals that need to implement proper cleanroom gowning products and procedures.
Types of Chemo Gowns and Apparel
Many styles of chemo protective apparel are available including sleeves, aprons, gowns, and coveralls. Since much of hazardous compounding is done in clean rooms, it is important to use proper donning procedures for a clean-processed chemo gown or suit. Wearing a non-clean chemo gown introduce particles and possible contamination into your compounding pharmacy.
Cleanroom Connection offers a hand-picked selection of clean-processed chemo gowns and oncology cleanroom apparel that are ISO5 Class 100 compliant. We can help you pick the proper apparel for your cleanroom’s ISO Class level.
For ISO6+ hazardous compounding clean rooms, it is important to wear a closed-back impervious chemo gown, as recommended in USP Chapter 800. If you are working in an ISO5 Class 100 area, a gown does not offer adequate coverage of your street clothes. You will need to wear a chemo-tested coverall in a Class 100 clean room. A middle ground would be a chemo lab coat, which Cleanroom Connection stocks as well. Class 100 compatible chemo lab coats are great, however, a lab coat is below the minimum gowning requirement for maintaining a true Class 100 facility.
Sterile Chemo Gowns & Apparel For HD Compounding
For those of you performing sterile hazardous compounding, Cleanroom Connection stocks sterile cleanroom chemo gowns and coveralls in all sizes. Sterile chemo coveralls with attached hood and boot provide maximum protection for both the pharmacist as well as protecting the drugs from contamination. Sterile chemo aprons with attached sleeves are also available at Cleanroom Connection for workers reluctant to put on a full bunny suit.
